Sodality of Saint Monica

Saint Monica is known and loved by Catholics as the persistent mother who through her many years of prayer, fasting and bitter tears won the grace of conversion for her son, giving the Church one of the greatest minds and one of the most enduring saints: Saint Augustine. St. Monica’s love for her son moved her to storm heaven and would not give up until the prayer was answered. She teaches us the importance of patience and persistence in prayer. St. Monica is venerated as a powerful intercessor for those who have wandered from the Catholic Church for another denomination or stopped practicing their Faith altogether.

The Prince of Peace Sodality of St. Monica is a fellowship of parishioners dedicated to praying for the return of loved ones to the Sacraments and supporting those whose family members have left the Church.

To be a member of the parish Sodality of Saint Monica

1.       Must be a Catholic committed to living his/her Faith by attending Holy Mass each Sunday and Holy Day; frequent reception of Holy Communion and Sacrament of Penance and faithfully following the Ten Commandments and teachings of the Church. A joyful living of the Catholic Faith is one of the greatest influences a person can have on those who have left the Church.

2.       Personal commitment to a life of prayer and sacrifice offered up for those who have left the Church (if possible daily Mass and a weekly Holy Hour in the Adoration Chapel, daily Holy Rosary, voluntarily abstaining from meat on Fridays throughout the year, and other sacrifices and works of charity.)

3.       The 8:30AM First Saturday Mass (Extraordinary Form of the Roman Missal) will be offered for the intentions of the members of Prince of Peace Sodality of Saint Monica.

4.       St. Monica medals and prayer cards will be provided to members.

5.       Membership dues are $25* a year to the Sodality. Membership forms may be found in the church narthex.

The Prince of Peace Sodality of Saint Monica will be inaugurated during the High School Youth Group Pilgrimage to Rome in June of 2008. Msgr. Brovey will carry the prayer petitions of Sodality members to the Church of St. Augustine to be left at the tomb of St. Monica.

*To be used to purchase votive candle stands and statuary for the church. A parish benefactor has generously donated a statue of St. Monica which will be placed in the church in the coming months.

The Holy Father’s Pastoral Visit

To the United States

On Tuesday, May 13 at 7PM, Monsignor Brovey will offer an overview of Pope Benedict’s message to the Catholic Church in America. Discussion will focus on the Holy Father’s message to the U. S. Bishops on how to faithfully transmit the Faith in a secular society, his message to Catholic educators and priests and religious and the American young people. We will also discuss what Pope Benedict was teaching us through the manner in which the Papal Masses were celebrated and finally the scandal of pro-abortion politicians receiving Holy Communion at the Papal Masses. Bavarian beer will be served and a toast offered in honor of “Papa Ratzinger.”
